Last, I am reading The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks. It is Book One of the Night Angel Trilogy. It's my fun read--something that I can read through quickly that I enjoy. I have to read at least one fantasy book while I'm reading this heavier fare! I hope to be done with this by the end of next week.
Question: Do you read something fun to break up a heavier read? Do you normally read chunksters or books that are shorter?

I love long books. Especially if a book is really good, then it's sad if it ends after 250 pages, don't you think?
I also have an easier read by the side when my chunkster (or not even chunkster, just any slow read) is not progressing to fast.
@leeswammes - You know, I can't really remember when I read a 250 page book. It's been awhile. I've read a few 300+ page books in the last year, but typically I read things that are 600+ pages. That being said, The Pacific is about 450 pages, but it's hardback and the words are small so it feels longer.
I definitely need an easier read. Middlemarch has melted my brain a little a few times I have sat down to read it. It's good, but not action packed! Hehehe!
Great question - I read about one "chunkster" a year. It takes me a while because I have to read it in chunks and break it up with less weighty novels. Last year I read Anna Karenina (loved it!) and now I'm reading (Les Miserables - also great). Good luck with Middlemarch! :)
I've been wanting to read Middlemarch! I couldn't committ right now because there is to much I want to read on my TBR and I have a feeling Middlemarch would take me quite awhile. But it's on my list. I'll be l ooking forward to hearing what you think when it's done.
I wanted to watch The Pacific but completely forgot about it by the time it was showing. Do you think they have it on DVD yet? I heard it was very, very good.
@Wallace - It is coming out November 2nd on DVD and Blu-Ray. Definitely watch it more than once. Because it focuses only on three main people, it is difficult to know who anyone else is. A lot of people criticize it because Band of Brothers is so loved, but I think Hanks/Spielberg/Goetzman were going for something totally different this time. Band of Brothers was meant to show how the war brought brotherhood to Easy Company, but The Pacific was meant to show that war is hell. The Pacific war was so much nastier in a lot of ways than the European war that I think it was a good choice for them to do this. I will definitely be reviewing the book AND the movie when I finish the book. I've watched the series twice now and am still learning who all the men were (I don't want to call them characters since the actors are depicting real soldiers from WWII). I will definitely be one of the first to buy it when it comes out on blu-ray. It was amazing--much more brutal and difficult to watch than Band of Brothers though. I can't wait to review the book and the series!
As for Middlemarch, I believe there is a blog out there that is doing a read-a-long in August maybe? I would HIGHLY recommend doing it as a read-a-long. I am doing much better this time around knowing that there will be discussion and that I only need to read ~50 pages per week. It's a REALLY dense book, but really well written. So far I like it (book 2 was kind of a snoozer though).
