The Journey Begins...

Book Read 'Round the World Event

The books are here! Last weekend, I ordered The Enchanted April by Elizabeth von Arnim and had it sent to Nuremberg, Germany to Rikki at The Bookkeeper. She received it today, and I also received the other book Lost on Planet China by J. Maarten Troost today!

Here is how it works:

  • When you receive the package, take a picture of what you received.
  • After you have read the book, buy a gift(s) that is unique to where you live for the next person on the list. This can include, but is not limited to:
    • Touristy postcard/bookmark
    • Small edible (but non-perishable) item
    • Book from a local author
    • Craft from a local artisan (ex. I try to buy something with the name of the place I visited from a local person wherever I go including bars of soap or Christmas ornaments--I realize that not everyone celebrates Christmas, but the idea is just something locally crafted)
    • Anything else you can think of to give the next person in line some local flavor! Just make sure that you are willing to pay the shipping for the item(s) and designate it as a gift when you mail it.
  • Write two things about your City, State/Province, Country to send onto the next person.
  • Write two questions you have about the place the next person lives for them to answer.
  • Sign the inside cover of the book with your name and your City, State/Province, Country. Feel free to draw a little flag or buy a little sticker of your country to put in the book (it's like our own little piece of well-traveled luggage!)
  • Write a journal entry on Bookcrossing.com when you receive the book and another one when you send it off.
  • Review the book on your blog and enter the link to your post on McKlinkly
  • Write up a post for my blog about your experience
  • Mail the book off to the next person on the list

**To keep everyone's information as private as possible, I will e-mail each of you the information of the next person to receive the book. Let me know when you receive the book so I can e-mail the information to you.

For the post on my blog here are a few questions to answer:

  1. Give a little plug for your blog (if you have a image, let me know) about what you write about.
  2. What did you get from the package your were sent?
  3. What were the questions you were asked?
  4. What were the two snippets about the previous country you were sent?
  5. What was your experience shopping for the next person on the list. Did you fret about what to get? Were you uncertain as to what you thought would be an interesting gift from your country?
  6. Write a one to two sentence review of the book -- just for fun. I want to see if you can do it! :)
  7. You can write a little more about what you thought about the experience.
