Book Beginnings Friday - 6/4

Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme hosted by Becky at Page Turners. Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading. If you like, share with everyone why you do, or do not, like the sentence.

"I heard the mailman approach my office door, half an hour earlier than usual. He didn't sound right. His footsteps fell more heavily, jauntily, and he whistled."  ~Storm Front (The Dresden Files: Book 1) by Jim Butcher

I've heard so many good things about Jim Butcher and have been meaning to pick up one of his books for awhile. I think it was fate that I started with The Dresden Files because a friend of mine suggested I watch the show that aired on SyFy (sadly, it was cancelled after only one season). I also met a Penguin Books sales rep at a book signing in Fredericksburg and she suggested I read Jim Butcher as well (she even sent me three of The Dresden Files books--Storm Front was one of them).

I love this sentence mostly because I can hear the actor from the TV show, Paul Blackthorne say the words in my head. Harry Dresden is definitely a cool wizard with a swagger and attitude. Although the show is fairly different from the book, I am really enjoying both equally. I plan on finishing the book today and will hopefully post the review this weekend!

I love this first sentence. It makes me laugh because I'm slightly obsessed with listening for the mail every day. Will look forward to hearing more about the book when you finish!

Glad to see you have been reading Goodkind. I'll have to browse and see what you thought about those books; Goodkind books pretty much defined my adolescence.

Thanks for stopping by my site!

Perfect timing....I'm going to play along as I'm starting a new book today. You quote makes me want to know "what's up" with the mailman.

I hope the mailman isn't about to murder someone or something?!
