In My Mailbox (89)

(hosted by The Story Siren)
(Sadly, this awesome mailbox is not my real mailbox. I found this on Photobucket courtesy of Fancybre)

Woo! I finally have enough books and other swag to post another In My Mailbox post! I'm so excited! I'm currently on a Book Buying Ban for the month of July, but I was sneaky and managed to get a few things anyway without breaking my rules. Here is what I acquired this week!

From Vintage Anchor:

I won a t-shirt from Vintage Anchor (@VintageAnchor) when I entered one of their Twitter contests! I love this series and the movie was so good I saw it in the theater twice!
Check out their website HERE
Follow them on Twitter

From PenguinPbks:

I also won a contest from Penguin Paperbacks (@PenguinPbks) through Twitter when I answered a photo question about their mini-tour. The posted a picture of their car on the side of the road and asked where it was. I answered "Big Sur, CA and Pacific Coast Highway" and won!
Books Received
Big Sur by Jack Kerouac
Cannery Row by John Steinbeck
(I thought I was going to just receive Big Sur, but the awesome people at Penguin sent me three books!)

From Jennifer at Crazy for Books:

My last acquisition was Murder in the Abstract by Susan Shea
It was autographed by Ms. Shea and included a nifty bookmark. I can't wait to read it!
I won this book through a giveaway on Crazy for Books blog. Thanks Jennifer! Thank you Ms. Shea!

Thank you to everyone that helped me circumvent my month long book ban. I'm not gonna lie...it was super fun to manipulate the system! Hehe!

What did you get in your mailbox this week? Leave me a comment!

That's an awesome mailbox! It would be fun to have something like that. I'm glad you were still able to get books even though you're on a book buying ban. If I go on a ban, I really won't be able to get any books because I buy the books that I read. Anyway, here's my IMM post if you want to check it out.

I found an even funnier one, but I was a little afraid to post it because my first reaction was, "Wow! That's kind of crazy and gross," but then I thought it was hilarious. I didn't post it though because I thought some people might take offense to it. :P

I went and commented on your IMM Post!

Great mailbox! What's your secret with winning box and T-shirts? Very nice, Carin!

Hope you'll have time to read it all. Hint: John Steinbeck is a favorite of mine. No, actually, I SAY that, but haven't read that much by him at all.

My Monday post is up. Check it out!

@leeswammes - Oh that's good that you like Steinbeck because I have an extra copy of Cannery Row that I'm going to give away (international too) for BlogFest! Off to check out your post!

Nice! I think it's great that you manage to acquire some things despite a buying ban!

Do you practice the "Rules of Acquisition" ala the Ferengie of Star Trek? Nice haul...but I must say, I'm a lifelong Steinbeck hater...HAD to read so many back in the day.

Mailbox pic is hilarious! :) One way to look at receiving bills, huh?

After you read Cannery Row, check out the film that came out in the 80s with Debra Winger. I remember really liking the film as a kid, but I wonder how I might like it today, and especially after re-reading the book?

Carin,
I'm loving your IMM pic! Funniest mailbox ever! I'm on the ban, too, but I also have selective memory!

Great swag! I'm jelly! And awesome books! I love Travels with Charley!

Here is my IMM! I'm also hosing my first giveaway! Hope you can check it out!

Happy Reading!

@Scrabblequeen - I haven't read much Steinbeck, but I did enjoy Cannery Row. I ended up in the English class in high school that didn't read Grapes of Wrath so Cannery Row was my first--I think I enjoyed it because we were going to Monterey that summer and it was really cool seeing some of the things he talked about in the book.

@Coffee and a Book Chick - Will do! I didn't realize there was a movie of it!

@Missie and Sarah - I thought the mailbox was hilarious too. I try to find quirky ones to post when I do IMM.

@agirlreads - C'mon! Post your haul! I want to see it!

@iris - I really like the look of the Penguin paperbacks too!

What a great way to fudge on the book buying ban. Actually, I don't think that I would consider it fudging:) I love getting book goodies!

Speaking of, the book about Angel Island is still sitting here all wrapped up and ready to go. I promise that I will get it to you soon.

@Gwen - Oh thanks! My TBR is so long that if it takes you awhile to get to the post office I won't bug you about it too much! hehe! I do want to read it though. It looked fantastic.

And oh...I am SO bad about acquiring stuff now. I might have to extend the ban.

Wwo, you ARE a lucky girl! I love the T-Shirt. I obviously need to enter more contests, :-).
Congrats on getting so many books in your mailbox without having to spend a penny.

Carin said...

@Laura - Yay! I am so glad you love the movie. You are the only other person who has told me they've seen it twice in the theaters. We are a special bunch, aren't we?!!

@Rikki - Follow @VintageAnchor. They do lots of t-shirt giveaways. Hopefully they'll ship to Europe!
