Blog Roll Problems Anyone?

Other Carin from Caroline Bookbinder let me know this morning that when she added me to her Blog Roll widget, this error message came up:
Could not detect a feed for this URL. Blog posts and update time will not be shown. Add URL anyway?
Us bloggers just simply cannot have that! I spent about an hour trying to look up a fix for it, and this is what I found:

  • It seems to be a problem with the RSS or Atom feed
  • There are a few quick fixes, but not the one I wanted because people can't simply add my blog to their blog roll and see any new posts I might have done. The same goes if this happens on someone's blog that I follow and the error message occurs on their blog.
  1. When you enter the URL into your Blog Roll widget, use this format (remember to change the "blogname" to the blog you are trying to follow):
  2. Go to Google Reader and click on "Add Subscription" at the top left hand corner of the page. Then add the URL of the blog you want to follow. When you go back to your Blog Roll widget editing feature, you will be able to click on the "Add to List" button and "Import Subscriptions from Google Reader" will show up. If you click that button, the blog you entered should show up and you can enter it that way. For a nifty link for you visual learners, here's a blog that has directions with pictures:
I was able to fix the problem using the first way, but not the second. I thought I'd post the second because it did work for the person whose link I posted above. If I figure out a better way, I'll be sure to post it on my blog. I hope that is helpful to those of you experiencing the problem. I have to admit that I love these little troubleshooting researches that I have to do, but I am a little frustrated that the problem doesn't appear to be fixable in the way that I want! hehe!

I found a post on the Known Issues area of Blogger and this is apparently a known issue and they are working on it. If you are having site feed areas, go to Known Issues and report your problem.

glad I could help! I figured you can't fix it if you don't know about it! I've had a friend trying to help me get a third column for the last couple of hours. Man, this blogging stuff is hard for English majors! :)

Wish I could help you on that one! The only way I was able to get three columns was to change my blog template! After I got this one, my husband and I spent days working on it so it displayed the way I wanted it to! Good luck to you!

I added your blog to my Google reader and it gave me the same message. You are on there and it indicates whenever you have a new post - but my reader doesn't show what your post looks like.

Thanks! That is so frustrating for me! I guess the Blogger people are aware of the problem (I've spent a few hours trying to find an easy fix that I could do rather than the fix I posted for people who wanted to add me) but they haven't got it fixed yet. For the time being, you could use this URL and it should work when you add my blog:

That's the URL for my direct feed and should work. Let me know if it does.

Thanks! I'm really loving your posts StephanieD. I'm so glad I found your blog. It's always interesting and I always love the questions you post to your readers. They are the best.

My blog seems to occasionally decide to "clean house" on my blog roll and it did it recently. I thought I'd added everyone ack on but today I noticed you weren't there and when I tried to re-add you, had the same problem! Used the full URL with the "feeds" embedded in it and it's working again. I'm so glad you were able to research this problem and figure out a solution even if for now it's just a workaround. Ugh!

That's really frustrating to me. I hope that they will fix it soon. I couldn't find any other easier fixes. Thanks for the update Other Carin!
